Raffles
the Plaza
Sir
Standford Raffles was the man credited with
shaping the island
of Singapore.
It was his vision that made this country a
Mecca
for business and commerce. Since he has so much
to do with the history of
Singapore, it seems only fitting
that you will find his name and likeness all
over the island, including Raffles The Plaza
Hotel.
Now
don’t confuse The Plaza with the turn of the
century Raffles Hotel that is across the street
because these two hotels are very different.
While the original Raffles is traditional, The
Plaza is modern and contemporary. The lobby is
large and filled with stunning art and natural
lighting. The only think that is not in line
with The Plaza’s modern feel is its service,
which can be described as nothing less than old
school. I’m not the only one that found their
staff friendly and helpful. They have received
awards from Conde Nast, Travel & Leisure and
Singapore’s Tourism Board.
They
have decorated their rooms in subtle hues that I
found comforting and cozy. The room had
everything I could want from broadband internet
service to fresh fruits and flowers. I really
loved walking out onto my own private balcony.
The designer bathrooms feature glass sinks and
showerheads that simulate tropical rain. The
guests in the suites have a private sauna and
Jacuzzi as well. |

If
you don’t happen to have your own private spa
facilities, then try out the hotel’s spa. The
Amrita offers an array of massage and body
treatments. If a massage isn’t your thing then
workout your stress in The Plaza’s
Fitness
Center.
They have numerous weight training and
cardiovascular machines as well as personal
trainers. After working up a sweat, cool down in
the hotel’s beautiful pool.
When
its time to eat, you won’t ever have to leave
The Plaza hotel. They have over 17 restaurants
and bars located right on the property. Some of
my favorites included: Prego Ristorante,
Sze-Chuan and Inagiku. Prego’s is a trendy
restaurant whose cuisine focuses on Italian
American dishes. Sze-Chuan is an elegant eatery
that serves up Chinese dishes and Inagiku is
Singapore’s
premiere Japanese restaurant. The hotel also has
several bars, delis and cafes for more causal
meals.
Raffles
The Plaza is the hotel where I always stay when
I’m in
Singapore
and is it any wonder why with their numerous
restaurants, sophisticated bedrooms and awarding
winning
service! | | |
